Linking up for today’s Sunday Social!
This week’s questions:
1. How old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I was 12! My mom gave me a purse full of age-appropriate makeup products the next year, which got stolen from my athletic locker. Still, I’ll always remember the beginning: blue eyeshadow and pink lip gloss.
2. What are your top 3 favorite beauty products?
Eye shadow, lipstick, blush
3. What is one makeup product you don’t leave home without?
A lip product of some sort–usually Dermstore Lip Quench or a universal matte pink/red that can double as blush or eye shadow if necessary (Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Lucky, Besame Cosmetics Crimson Cream Rouge)
4. What is your daily beauty routine?
Wash face with gentle foaming cleanser, lather on a thick moisturizer, immediately follow with michael todd true organics knu facial serum. [+Michael Todd True Organics Charcoal Mask once a week]
5. What is your favorite hair/makeup product you’ve discovered in the last year?
Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tints or Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Exotic Pink

B A Star is a performance makeup brand. They create products for performers. “Sing, Dance, Strut, Perform–Shine Like a Star!”
The Holiday Red Lip Pencil applies all over lips for the perfect runway red, stays on all day, and you can add glitter or gloss for extra shine!
This product is pretty bright. It can also be used for everyday wear if you love a bold lip! I had no problems with the lip pencil feathering or settling into fine lines. (I had a lovely model for these pictures!)
The pencil is $8.75, but the price drops to $5 if you buy 6 or more. You can also use this code: BBLIPS to receive 50% off!! Buy the lip pencil here.

In the first picture, the palette is on the left and the sleeve is on the right.
The second picture shows the palette laying open.
The third is a close up of the four shadows and blush. The top left shadow makes a great highlight color. All four shadows are light on application at first, but they’re very buildable. All had good staying power without primer. It’s easy to create light or darker looks with this palette. The blush is a great winter pink!
The fourth picture is a closeup of the top half of the palette, which has step-by-step directions for the look shown on the palette.
Here’s a soft winter look I did using the palette.
I like this palette. My only complaint is the shadows aren’t labelled on the palette itself. The instructions refer to the shadows by name, but it’s difficult to figure out which is which. This palette is currently priced at $40 on StudioGearCosmetics.com. You can save 10% off your entire order by using this code: SGHOLIDAY

I received these products:
Whish Exfoliating Body Wash – This body wash is amazing! It smells wonderful (coconut milk) and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I didn’t find it to be quite as harsh as some exfoliating products, which was nice. I received Whish shave cream in last month’s Birchbox. I’m loving Whish products!
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product – I was really excited to receive this product as I see it advertised in EVERY magazine. It’s a really good sized sample and feels weightless on my hair. I can never have enough leave-in products!
(MALIN+GOETZ) vitamin e face moisturizer – This moisturizer hydrated my super dry skin. It’s safe for sensitive skin and can also be used as a primer.
stila stay all day liquid lipstick – I was super excited to receive this product in my birchbox. It is extremely pigmented. I like the formula–it goes on as a liquid and dries immediately. It’s a bit hard to work with…if you don’t put in on perfectly, you may spend awhile cleaning up a mess. This red is a little much for me, but I think it’d be great in a nude shade.
Whish hair inhibiting deodorant swipes – I haven’t tried these yet, but I’m expecting great things since they’re a Whish product. They claim to “tackle odor and slow hair growth in one swipe.”

My rating for the August Birchbox: A
The Finishing School Birchbox really impressed me! I’d been getting frustrated with Birchbox because their boxes have been paling in comparison to ipsy, but this month they pleasantly surprised me! (Check out my August ipsy review here.) Birchbox only costs $10 a month and you can sign up for a subscription here.
Birchbox subscribers: What’d you receive in your August Birchbox? Were you happy with the products?
The theme for this month’s ipsy glam bag was Glamour Academy. The bag itself is purple with gold decoration.
My bag consisted of the following products:
Michael Todd True Organics Jojoba Charcoal Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub
Pacifica Alight Mulit-Mineral BB Cream
Pixi Lash Booster Mascara in Blackest Black
noya cherry lip balm
My rating for the August ipsy glam bag: C+
I’m usually VERY happy with my ipsy glam bag. It only costs $10 and usually gives really great deluxe or full sized products. This month I was disappointed. I was really hoping for an Urban Decay lipstick sample and the Michael Todd Pumpkin Mask. This bag still boasted a great value, but I won’t be able to use all of the products. The eyebrow pencil is much too dark for me, and the BB cream has an odd scent and looks almost yellow on my skin. I’m not a fan of pixi products–I think they’re overpriced and not the best quality. I’m excited about trying the Michael Todd True Organics Charcoal Scrub, and who doesn’t love cherry lip balm? Overall, the ipsy Glamour Academy bag rates at about a C+ on my scale. One of the best subscription boxes around, but not a great month.
Any other ipsy subscribers out there? How’d you like your August bag?
