September 2013 Birchbox Review

I realized that I never posted a review for my September Birchbox, so here it is! The theme for the month was Heritage, and it was Birchbox’s anniversary month. First look:

I liked the inspirational card. Nice touch, Birchbox! Here’s a look at the products I found inside:

amika Blow Up Spray – I haven’t used this yet, and I’m not sure I will. I have SO many sea salt sprays and texture products, so I may pass this one along. Not disappointed to receive it, though. I feel like it’s a great value to get this in a box!

Caudalie Make-up Remover Cleansing Water – I have sensitive skin, so this was a win for me! I’ve only tried it once or twice so far. It removed my makeup and didn’t irritate my skin at all. I found it interesting that you don’t have to rinse your face after using it.

RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer in Hedge Fund – Full size product, $10 value! I expected this to be a dark, mossy green, but it actually looked lighter and shimmery…almost like a Christmas green, which of course pleased me! I’m very happy with this product. And it alone equals the price of the box!

Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Skin Cream – I’m not big on cream or moisturizer samples in foil or paper packaging. That being said, there’s a pretty good amount of product in this one. I really appreciate that it’s all-natural and moisturizing. Plus it’s the beauty extra, so no real complaints!

Coastal Scents Eye Shadow Day to Night – I think it’s great to get a mini palette in a subscription box! I can’t use Coastal Scents, so I passed this along in my Cara Box. The colors are great for fall!

Here’s a look at the info card from this box (RUFFIAN Nail Lacquer swatched on card):

My rating for the September Birchbox: A-

I was really happy with this box. While I couldn’t use all the products, I still felt like I received a great box with amazing value. Birchbox has been incredible the last few months! It only costs $10/month. If you want to subscribe, click through any of my referral links in this post.

October 2013 Blush Mystery Beauty Box Review

The Blush Mystery Beauty Box (Bag) has become one of my favorite subscriptions! This month, the featured curator is Kimberly Klotz-Kolodziejski, co-founder of Chella. If you’re an ipsy subscriber, you’ve probably received a Chella product or two over the last several months. I like the brand so far. So what was in this month’s box? Take a look!

These were my samples. Unfortunately the dremu oil leaked and was completely empty by the time it got to me. The small bag contained all the liquid so it didn’t get on any other products. The other sample is Specific Beauty Night Treatment Complex Step 3.

The featured product this month was Chella Highlighter Pencil in Ivory Lace. I actually already have this product from ipsy, but I’m so glad to have another! I watched a video on the blush site showing several ways to use the pencil so I’m using it constantly now! I like multipurpose products. I mainly use it under eyebrows, down my nose, and on my cheekbones and blend it with an eyeshadow brush.

The reason I decided to get the October Blush box is this next product: butter London nail lacquer in Kerfuffle! I’ve wanted to try butter London for a long time. This color is a peachy pink and seems more suitable to spring than fall, but we’re not bound by the rules of fashion & beauty. I’ll use this polish next time I paint my nails. Super excited it was included!

Next is Karin Herzog Vit-A-Kombi 1 daily moisturizer. That’s what the info card says, but my product actually says VITAMIN H across it. The cream is bright yellow gold and feels incredibly moisturizing. I like it!

Myface Cosmetics Lip Pop Gloss didn’t impress me. It looks pretty enough on, and it’s basically a sheer gloss. None of the bright pink pigment transfers onto my lips. It feels smooth and isn’t sticky. No smell or taste, but it’s just kind of a ‘meh’ product that I think most supermarkets would carry. I prefer lip products that make me feel pampered.

Theraplex Ft Exfoliating Emollient is supposed to restore softness and comfort to severely rough dry hands and feet. I have super dry hands and feet so this is perfect for me! This looks like a full size product. I can’t wait to use it!!

Talika Lipocils Expert is an interesting product. The applicator shown on the package is a like a mascara wand with a soft applicator tip. The sample only came with a soft applicator. It’s supposed to enhance your lashes. I may not use this one because I have sensitive eyes.

Miracle Skin Transformer Face SPF 20 is a 5 in 1 tinted skin enhancer. I got the Medium shade so I’ll probably give it away to someone who isn’t so pale! 🙂

The final product is one I was really excited about, but mine came broken. Mirabella Mineral Highlighting Powder is basically a blush. It’s beautiful! And it’s full size, which I think is $38. I received Shimmer Rose and that’s probably the color I would’ve picked for myself. Since mine was broken, blush is sending a replacement. My account says I’ll be getting the Latte Swirl shade this time. Blush has good customer service, I’ve dealt with them a few times.

My rating for the October Blush Box: B+

(3 products I love, 2 more I’m excited to try–3 products I probably won’t use. Also taking into consideration the broken blush.)

If you want to try, let me know in the comments. I can send you an email for $10 off your first purchase!

August 2013 Blush Mystery Beauty Box

The Blush Mystery Beauty Box is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The August box was my first shipment, and I was impressed with the value! Check out what was in the box:

iPhone 8-23 015The box I received was actually missing 2 of the items noted on the card, so I contacted customer service and they sent me the products. They aren’t shown in this picture, but they were a Vapour Organic Beauty Elixir Lip Gloss (full size! $20) and Carita Paris Biological Face Mask.

MOR Emporium Hand Cream Snow Gardenia – This is a full size product ($20)!! I like the scent, and the packaging is luxurious!

Pixi Beauty Endless Silky Eye Pen in Plum – This is another full size product ($15)!! I’m not normally a Pixi fan, but I love this eyeliner! Silky is the perfect word to describe it–it’s so easy to apply. The plum is like a dark brown purple. It’s really flattering. Love it!

Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant – I haven’t tried this product yet, but I’m excited about it!

Coola Organic Sunscreen in Cucumber – I already have one of these samples, and I’m a fan! The scent isn’t overwhelming, and it’s a good size to keep in your purse in case you forget sunscreen or moisturizer.

Skylark Fragrance Sampler – this was a bonus item. It contains 3 rollerball fragrances!

Colorescience Primer – This was also a bonus product. I haven’t tried it yet.

Anastasia Lash Genius Clear Waterproof Topcoat – I’ve been wanting to try Anastasia for a long time, so I was really glad to see it in this box! This product makes any mascara waterproof.

Philip B. Maui Wowie Volumizing and Thickening Beach Mist – Another full size product ($22)!! This product was revealed before the box started shipping. Beach sprays are so big this year!

I also received samples of Dremu Oil Serum, Rescue Restorative Shampoo, & Alchimie Brightening Moisture Mask.iPhone 8-23 013

I was impressed with my first Blush Mystery Beauty Box, even though mine was missing some items. You can buy a box for $34.95, or you can sign up for a monthly subscription and pay $24.95. You can get 7% cash back by going through Mr. Rebates. If you want to sign up, leave your email address in the comments and let me know. I’ll send you a referral email that will give you $10 off!

My rating for the August Blush Mystery Beauty Box: A- (because of the missing items!)

October 2013 Birchbox Review

My Birchbox arrived today, and I couldn’t be happier with the contents! This month’s theme is Beauty Buzz. First look:

I instantly perked up when I saw a bright Tiffany-ish blue box next to a Benefit product! The first thing I took out of the box and examined was POP Beauty Aqua Lacquer in Flowering Fuchsia. POP Beauty seems to be showing up in lots of boxes lately!

Here’s the product swatched on my hand (no flash, indoor light). I was surprised to find this tube of lip gloss has an applicator wand! It’s paddle-style is similar to the Whip Hand Cosmetics’ Lip Hit applicators.

The product went on a little thick at first, but it wouldn’t take long to get used to applying. It felt smooth and wasn’t sticky. There’s a slight tingle and a minty-ish scent. I think this is the full size, which is $14.

Birchbox info: A British makeup pro created this sheer gloss, which plumps and hydrates with jojoba oil. The cute paddle-style applicator makes for precise lines.

I couldn’t keep from grabbing the Benefit box any longer! Benefit Fake Up concealer is loved by many, and I can’t wait to try it. I’m really glad Birchbox sent me the right shade! I received 01 Light, which is the best shot at working with my super paleness. It’s a pretty good sized sample. The full size is $24.

20131009-191406.jpg Birchbox info: Brighten tired-looking eyes with this hydrating under eye concealer and moisturizer combo. Gently swipe under each eye and use your ring finger to blend.

The next product was a Birchbox Find. It doesn’t count as a regular sample, it’s just a bonus! This item was revealed in the sneak peek video this month.

It’s Chapstick Hydration Lock in Vanilla Creme. I’m a sucker for vanilla, so I’m happy with this bonus product! It also came with a $1 off coupon. I love me some coupons. It appears to be completely sheer and can be used as a lip primer. Here’s a shot of the product.

20131009-191944.jpg (That’s Julep’s Christina on my nails. The color is actually a deep red-orange with microglitter shimmer! I know it’s time to repaint them, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I only used one coat over Ulta base coat and it didn’t chip for a week!)

I saved the beautiful box for last. Inside, I found Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and Pure Muslin Cloth. I’m really excited to use this product! I hope it’s not too much for my sensitive skin to take.

20131009-192248.jpg How cute is it that they print on the inside of the box lid? Loving this company already.

20131009-192408.jpg I like that they included a small instruction booklet. The full size cleanser is $21.50 and 2 cloths are $6.

Birchbox info on cleanser: UK favorite that uses a two-step ritual to purify and exfoliate. A Birchbox exclusive! Massage into skin. With muslin cloth, wipe off gently in small circles, from the center out.

Birchbox info on cloth: Ditch your harsh exfoliation and use this pure muslin cloth, which gently polishes skin. Rinse with warm water and wipe off cleanser. Hang to dry.

My rating for the October Birchbox: A
